About MUTEK

Candie mutek 13 09 19 la tangente natalia vidal 632

MUTEK is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the dissemination and development of digital creativity in sound, music, and audiovisual art. Its mandate is to provide a platform for the most original and visionary artists currently working in their fields, with the intent of providing an outlet of initiation and discovery for the audiences we seek to develop.

Since its first edition in 2000, the MUTEK festival has distinguished itself as an international rendezvous for original and avant-garde programming. In terms of content, the festival’s range strives to be diverse, with interests in both the experimental and the playful sides of digital creativity. This is a world of constant evolution and incessant refinement – the “MU” in MUTEK refers consciously to the notion of “mutation”.

A MUTEK network exists today, with ramifications in North America, South America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia which provides an essential platform to promote and explore wide-ranging artistic content, all the while reflecting a cultural effervescence that is both real and global.

MUTEK in Argentina

MUTEK resumed its link with Buenos Aires after several years of hiatus. Latin America has actively participated in the festival's adventures since 2002, with the first events in Argentina taking place in 2005 during a tour that also visited Chile, Mexico, Colombia and Brazil. MUTEK Argentina established its foothold soon after, producing single and multi-day events until 2010, creating an important node of connection between South American, European and international artists.

Revitalized and re-established, MUTEK Argentina returned in 2017 to hold Edition 1 of the "new era" and installed itself in the annual porteño agenda as a space for diversity and convergence in terms of art, technology, culture, accessibility and gender.

After three editions in Buenos Aires and a hybrid edition in conjunction with MUTEK.ES, the festival has already fulfilled its essential objective, that of being a platform that brings artistic innovations to the public and at the same time functions as a space for meeting, exchange and flow of information for artists and the local and international community.
