Shackleton is one of the most singular voices in electronic music—a producer whose work transcends genre and remains rooted in emotional depth and spiritual intensity. Emerging in the mid-2000s as co-founder of the influential Skull Disco label, his early releases sidestepped dubstep orthodoxy with polyrhythmic percussion, mystical atmospheres, and a distinctly ritualistic aesthetic.

Originally from Lancashire, Shackleton moved to Berlin in 2008, where he continued to develop a sonic language shaped by intuition rather than scene, drawing loosely from African, Middle Eastern, and Southeast Asian traditions without ever imitating them. His discography includes acclaimed solo albums like Three EPs and Music for the Quiet Hour, as well as collaborations with Pinch, Ernesto Tomasini, Anika, and Vengeance Tenfold.

In recent years, he’s expanded his vision with the project Tunes of Negation, crafting expansive, trance-inducing compositions with a psychedelic edge. His 2021 solo album Departing Like Rivers offers a more meditative, post-club experience—beat-driven yet introspective. Resistant to overexposure and uninterested in hype, Shackleton’s work invites listeners into a private, immersive realm of sound—one that lingers long after the music fades.

Having collaborated with prestigious vocalists such as Anika and Ernesto Tomasini on his latest albums, Shackleton announced two new live shows in 2019, which would run parallel to his ongoing and increasingly selective club activity. After the break forced by the pandemic, MUTEK Barcelona will have the privilege of presenting Shackleton's latest sound arsenal in its 13th edition.
