Hiroaki Umeda is a choreographer and a multidisciplinary artist recognized as a current figure in the Japanese avant-garde art scene. Since the launch of his company S20, his subtle yet bold dance pieces have toured around the world to critical acclaim. The sophisticated pieces are acknowledged for the holistic artistic methodology with sharp digital backdrop, which considers not only physical elements of dance but also optical, sensorial and, above all, spatiotemporal components as part of the choreography. Based on his profound interest in choreographing between time and space, Umeda has extended his dance talent to a lighting designer, scenographer and visual artist.
