SYNSPECIES, the audiovisual project of Elías Merino & Tadej Droljc, opens up a vortex in which multi-scale audiovisual components transform into entities that mutate, adapt and fight for their own space and existence, in an unreal but highly physical environment dominated by intense energy. Creative coding, analog signals, sound algorithms, modular synthesis and 3D geometry that unfold in a duet interpretation of synchronized chaos and fragmented storytelling.

Lunchmeat (Prague), Semibreve (Portugal), Tentacular Festival of Critical Technologies and Digital Adventures (Madrid) and the Biennale Némo (Paris) are some of the festivals that have witnessed the evolution of SYNSPECIES abstract entities, “one of the most breathtaking experiences of this years festival. An overwhelming AV piece on a monumental 25m wide projection screen”.

Based in Madrid, Elías Merino is a composer, sound artist and researcher whose projects encompass an eclectic range of different aesthetics, navigating between abstract algorithmic, experimental electronic and instrumental music. Merino’s work explores temporal shifts in perspective, fractured narratives, immersive contemplation and states of bewilderment. Merino released albums on labels such as Room40, SUPERPANG and leerraum. He has performed at a diversity of venues, namely the Philharmonie de Paris, the National Museum of Contemporary Art of Romania and the National Museum of Fine Arts of Taiwan.

Tadej Droljc is a Slovenian artist and creative coder working at the intersection of sound, image and light. His remarquable doctoral research was awarded the Vice Chancellor’s Award for outstanding thesis at the University of Huddersfield’s CeReNeM. His artistic projects, strongly based on his academic experience, have been presented at events such as Inter BEE Tokyo, IBC Amsterdam and Cannes' Marché du film.
